Swaledale Holiday Report
It
was a lovely three days spent in the Dales.
The sun shone, the wild flower meadows looked at their best, the
accommodation was great with splendid meals, as much as anyone could eat, the
company was sparkling, especially after a few drinks in the evening and a great
time was had by all.
There
were three, somewhat taxing walks. That on Monday afternoon, billed as a quiet
stroll through the riverside meadows, proved to be much more demanding,
involving hills and steps, down which at least two members fell. (Both were
unhurt and very good-natured about it).

Tuesday’s
walk up to the waterfall at Keld worked well although some unscheduled wall
scrambling was necessary, and the party attempting the shorter alternative met
up with the others on cue. (Actually the shorter alternative was almost as
long!).

Then
on Wednesday Gunnerside Gill was a popular walk with old lead mine workings
adding to the interest. Again rather
taxing, but the valiant Minster Walkers made light of it, with
spirits high to the end.

Twenty-two members of the group took part, including some brave guest members and all proved their worth. Some also took the opertunity to enjoy a day out in the beautiful yorkshire dales siteseeing.
Many thanks to those who led the walks, all of whom proved to be
extremely competent. And thanks too to the staff at the Kearton Hotel,
especially the chef and our lovely waitress Elsie. I think everybody enjoyed
the break and all went home looking healthy and happy.
